My work that I call “Wear My Story” was created with inspiration from the traditional Indian lehenga which is a long skirt that is now primarily worn for weddings and special events. As an immigrant who never lived in India I’ve always felt disconnected from my cultural heritage. This project was a choice made to reconnect and learn more about my roots.

My family is from 4 different states in India which are Maharashtra, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand. I chose to make each panel of my lehenga represent one of these states. The skirt is made of silk and I used silk painting techniques to paint my illustrations onto the fabric.
